Who We Are

The Woodford Community Christian Church has a unique and interesting history. The church began in 1998 as a combination of two congregations that had gone through a church split. In December of 1997 the leadership of the Woodford Christian Church (WCC) and the Community Christian Church (CCC) met together for communion, prayer and to discuss the possibilities of merging the two churches together. By the end of the meeting there was a unanimous agreement to proceed with talks. The leaders went back to their churches and gave their recommendation and polled the congregations. The vote was 87% from both churches in favor.

On December 14, 1997 the two churches held a joint Christmas Carol service, which was well attended. Early in January 1998, the leaderships met again. They discussed issues including a statement of faith, senior minister, leadership, vision, outside leadership, and the name. A subcommittee from the churches met and agreed on the statement of faith. The name of the new church would be Woodford Community Christian Church.

Randy Nation was the preaching minister at Community Christian Church. On February 8, 1998, he went to Woodford Christian Church and preached a trial sermon, having been previously interviewed by a pulpit committee from Woodford Christian Church. Both churches voted that day. WCC voted on the proposal to bring the churches together and to call Randy as senior minister, and CCC voted on the proposal to bring the churches together. Both churches voted in favor on both issues at over 90%.

The target date was March 1, 1998. The churches began the process of merging the ministry structure, offices, Sunday schools, missions, youth groups, and resources. Five elders from strong area churches began serving as a leadership team.

The first service on March 1, 1998 was incredible. People wanted to place their membership. There were 196 responses in the first weeks. God has continue to bless the ministry of WCCC since the merger. Visitors are attending each week, many of them new to the community.

The future of Woodford Community Christian Church is bright. WCCC now has three full time ministers and one part-time minister. We have moved into a new facility with over 35,000 square feet of ministry space. With the additional space our growth has continued as God keeps blessing Woodford Community Christian Church.
